The Second Pranab Mukherjee Memorial Lecture
His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck
President, Republic of India
I am glad to learn that the Second Pranab Mukherjee Memorial Lecture has been organised by the Pranab Mukherjee Legacy Foundation on August 31, the second death anniversary of the great
leader.
Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee was blessed with a unique combination of virtues. He was a popular mass leader as well as an astute statesman. He toiled hard for the welfare of the masses and
was equally committed in his scholarly endeavours. Always full of charm and warmth, he prized relationships, and he had a knack of making friends from different backgrounds.
Shri Mukherjee served the nation in various capacities, upholding great democratic traditions in each of them. One of the most accomplished parliamentarians we ever had; his long and fruitful career in public service, befittingly, culminated with him getting elected to the highest Constitutional post in the Republic.
The Pranab Mukherjee Legacy Foundation must be complimented for organising the annual lecture in memory of the leader who endeared himself to all.
I am pleased to learn that His Holiness Dalai Lama will deliver the Second Pranab Mukherjee Memorial Lecture, on ‘Relevance of India’s Civilisational Values of Compassion, Non-violence & Peaceful
Co-existence in Contemporary World.’ lt is, I believe, a very pertinent topic as humankind is facing unprecedented challenges and the Indian ethos can guide the right responses.
I am confident that the lecture will be a great success.
